Our founder, Andy, has worked in some of the remotest places on the planet and has seen first-hand the devastating effects of global warming. To make sure we are not adding to the problem, we have made a number of choices to reduce our impact on the environment.
Help us rewild the Scottish highlands and donate a tree to help reforest the Caledonian Forest in partnership with Trees for Life. For just a £6 donation, a seedling can be planted in the nursery and then, once established, planted out as a sapling tree in our Hang Grove.
The Caledonian Forest covered vast areas of the Scottish Highlands and was once home to wild cattle, beaver and apex predators like wolves and Lynx. Sadly only 1% of the original forest was left by the 1950s, and all the wildlife reliant on this ecosystem disappeared.
Trees for Life plan to bring back the forests and reintroduce many of the lost species. To help support this good work, you can make a donation on the checkout page of our website, or you can donate directly on our page - Hang Framing Grove.
Using timber from certified sources helps protect forests and their surrounding communities from illegal logging and ensures that the harvested trees are replanted or managed to naturally regenerate. FSC (Forestry Stewardship Commission) or PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Communication) standards ensure the highest environmental and social standards and economically viable management of the world's forests.
Currently, 90% of our mountboard is FSC certified, the kraft backing paper and our packaging is also FSC certified. Our frames are a mix of PEFC and FSC certification. Unfortunately, we cannot source all frame styles with a certification but are working hard to change this. We have tried to make it clear which frames are certified and have added a filter to help you select these.
We recycle as many materials as possible. Each material type is separated and recycled at our local recycling centre. We currently recycle wood, plastics, card/paper and glass.
Our packaging is plastic-free and made of recycled cardboard and paper. Once your frame is unpackaged, simply add it to your paper recycling bin.
